orest and land fires in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area have finally been declared completely extinguished following a 13-day joint operation. The total affected area reached 1,121 hectares, with hot spots successfully controlled through ground sweeping and aerial water bombing using helicopters.
TNBTS Agency head Rudijanta Tjahja confirmed on Wednesday that field evaluation results indicated the area was safe to welcome tourists.
“Based on the monitoring and evaluation of the area's condition, taking into account the safety of visitors and officers, the Bromo tourist area will reopen to tourists starting Thursday at 12:01 a.m.,” he said.
Following confirmation that the fires had been put out, the emergency command post for forest and land fire handling was officially closed.
East Java Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) executive director Gatot Soebroto stated that the decision was made after no massive hot spots were found.
“The Bromo handling command post has been closed because we have conducted sweeping and water bombing for dampening in several spots; there are no longer any massive hot spots,” he said.
Nevertheless, TNBTS personnel will continue monitoring efforts to ensure no remaining embers could potentially trigger new fires.
