nvironmental activists from Greenpeace Indonesia climbed to the top of the Welcome Statue at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta early Tuesday and unfurled two giant banners criticizing the government’s handling of disasters and rising living costs, amid ongoing wildfires in Kalimantan.

One banner on one side of the landmark read “Take Action on the Climate Crisis, Bring Down the Cost of Living,” while another on the opposite side declared, “Disasters Are Rising, People Are Struggling, What Is the Government Doing?”

In a statement, Greenpeace Indonesia said its action was intended to mark the two-year celebration of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration by urging it to “handle the climate crisis” more seriously as it threatens people’s health and livelihoods.
