S-based company New Balance is getting a head start in the sports shoe industry with its first running shoe with 3D-printed midsoles, which are said give the shoe more flexibility, support and durability.
“We are in the very early stages of using this technology, but as we continue with more iterations and designs, we’ll be able to exceed the performance of running shoes on the market now,” says Katherine Petrecca, New Balance’s general manager for studio innovation, as quoted by womenshealthmag.com.
“Eventually, we’ll be able to have consumers go through an analysis, share biomechanical data and provide their personal preferences to create a completely unique shoe for them.”
Just 44 pairs of Zante Generate, the name of the personalized midsole sneakers, will be available on the April 15 release date at the New Balance Experience Store in Boston and on the company's website. The number signifies the 44th anniversary of chairman Jim Davis’ acquisition of the company.
The Next Web previously reported that New Balance utilized Intel technology to measure each customer's foot so that they would have the most accurate midsoles. In the future, it plans to provide custom 3D-printed midsoles for all those who shop at its retail stores.
Since the Zante Generate is currently a limited edition, expect to pay US$400 for a pair of these shoes. (kes)
