ajwa Shihab, Metro TV's senior reporter and host of weekly talk show Mata Najwa (Najwa's Eyes), on Tuesday announced her resignation after 17 years at the national television news channel.

Najwa's exit also marks the end of the channel's popular show, Mata Najwa, after 511 episodes since it began airing in 2009.

"Seventeen years is not a short time. [The feeling of] being proud to be the first reporter of Metro TV, as owner of code reporter 01, a term my friends use in Kedoya, will never fade," Najwa said in a statement received by The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

She further said in the statement that August would be her final month at Metro TV, which offices are located in Kedoya, South Jakarta.

The channel for the next three weeks will air re-runs of Mata Najwa, highlighting "old episodes that we deem are important and valuable."

The show in Nov. 25, 2009 premiered with its very first episode titled "Dunia dalam Kotak Ajaib" (World in a magic box).

On July 26, 2017, it aired its 511th episode, which was an exclusive interview with Novel Baswedan, a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) lead investigator who suffered burns to his left eye, face and neck after falling victim to an acid attack in April.

Mata Najwa will return for its final and farewell episode, "Catatan tanpa titik" (Notes without a full stop) at the end of August.

Najwa in the statement hinted at continuing a career in journalism but did not specify any more details.

"The series of my journey as a reporter in the first news TV [channel] in the country was recorded in-depth, making life much richer and becoming a valuable stock to continue working as a journalist," Najwa said. (liz/kes)
