Pop band vocalist Giring Ganesha is trying his luck at politics.

The singer reportedly registered as the Indonesian Solidarity Party’s (PSI) legislative candidate on Wednesday.

During the registration event, Giring promised not to engage in corruption if elected to the House of Representative in the 2019 legislative election.

He mentioned that the legislative member’s salary would be more than enough for him to feed his family.

Antara news agency reported that Giring chose to be a member of PSI because the political party has a strong commitment to fight corruption and intolerance.

Giring is a member of local band Nidji. Prior to this, the singer was among the celebrities who endorsed Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat during this year’s Jakarta gubernatorial election. (jes/kes)
