Japanese fashion retail Uniqlo has announced its first expansion outside the island of Java.

As reported by kompas.com, around March next year the company is set to open an outlet in Medan, North Sumatra.

Occupying an area of up to 2,000 square meters, the store in SUN Plaza will be Uniqlo's 15th store in Indonesia.

"We're happy to be able to bring Uniqlo to Medan, as this city is home to dynamic people and lifestyle," said PT Fast Retailing Indonesia president director Michiaki Tanaka as quoted by kompas.com.

The company currently has stores in 19 countries. (kes)
