T

he Jakarta Modest Fashion Week (JMFW), the first of its kind in Asia, will be held at Gandaria City Mall, South Jakarta, from July 26 to 29.

Following the success of past modest fashion weeks in Istanbul, London and Dubai, Jakarta was selected to host this year’s event because of its potential to develop the market.

Fashion shows, talk shows, workshops, panel events and branded booths will be the order of the day at the four-day event, which will welcome 21 countries from Europe, Asia and Africa.

“As for content, it's going to be rich,” said Ismail Semin, the founder of Markamarie Creative and local partner of Modest Fashion Week owner Think Fashion, at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

JMFW partner the Metro Department Store will be selling its brands, which will be displayed at the event, offline until December.

In a bid to raise support and create awareness, the JMFW will also partner with the Asian Para Games to create a fashion brand specifically made for people with disabilities. The event will see athletes showing off the latest ranges on the runway.

The partnership is themed “Dream and Design for Disabilities” with Modest Fashion Weeks Global founder Franka Soeria saying that fashion should never be exclusive.

“All this time, we know many people say fashion is exclusive. We’re not followers of the view that fashion is only for the upper class. Fashion is for everybody. Everybody has the right to enjoy fashion, including the disabled,” she said. (anm/wng)
