mall and white, clean and bright – edelweiss is found only at high altitudes. It is no wonder that hikers are often the only people who experience the joy of encountering this pretty mountain flower in Indonesia.
Edelweiss usually bloom between April and August at altitudes over 1,800 meters above sea level. This everlasting flower is non-toxic and is often used as a remedy against abdominal and respiratory problems.
Here are five mountains in Indonesia graced by fields of edelweiss, according to kompas.com:
1. Gede and Pangrango mountains
Two edelweiss fields can be found on the adjoining mountains of Gede and Pangrango. On Mount Gede, the edelweiss field is located at Surya Kencana Square, to the south of the mountain's peak. On Mount Pangrango, meanwhile, a meadow of edelweiss grows in Mandalawangi Valley.
2. Mount Merbabu
Edelweiss grow on this Central Java mountain at an altitude of 3142 m. Hikers must walk to the mountains savanna, which can be reached by taking the the southern Selo or Gancik paths. After reaching the savanna, edelweiss flowers can be seen along the hiking trail. The most beautiful expanse of edelweiss is located near the summit.

Edelweiss can be found on this 3,150-m-high mountain just below the peak along the southern Kledung path. Meanwhile, along the Bansari path from the east, edelweiss can be found at the last camp ground post before the peak.
