S

outh Korean actor Park Bo-Gum dazzled his Indonesian fans in Jakarta over the weekend, showcasing his vocal range and dancing skills while wowing the audience by singing two Indonesian hit songs.

Held at Kota Kasablanka on Saturday night, the fan meeting was part of Bo-Gum’s Asian tour, titled “2019 Park Bo Gum Asia Tour < Good Day: May your everyday be a good day >”, sponsored by Mecima Pro.

The latest tour marked his third visit to the country, following the 2017 fan meeting and Music Bank Jakarta music show.

“I’m very thankful and grateful that even after two years and the incredible distance between us, the Indonesian fans still come looking for me, and I am very grateful for that,” Bo-Gum was quoted by kapanlagi.com as saying.

One moment that stuck with Bo-Gum during his previous fan meeting was singing Chrisye’s hit song “Untukku” (For Me).

This year around, he sang “Untukku” again with his fans while playing the piano, a skill he honed beginning in kindergarten.

Along with “Untukku” and his own song “My Person”, Bo-Gum also covered a number of Korean songs, including IU’s “Through the Night”, Day6’s “I Like You” and PSY’s “Entertainer”.

However, one surprise performance that got the fans going wild was when he sang Rizky Febian’s “Kesempurnaan Cinta” (Perfection of Love). He even honored fans’ repeated requests for an encore, singing the song twice that night.

The Korean heartthrob also showed off his dancing skills through a dance cover of Seventeen’s “Pretty U” and Twice’s “What is Love”, which he performed in previous fan meetings in other countries.

The 25-year-old broke into the spotlight with his roles in a number of television series, including Hello Monster, Reply 1988 and Encounter. It was reported he will return to the big screen for the upcoming action film Seo Bok, where he will act alongside Gong Yoo of the Guardian: The Lonely and Great God fame.

Bo-Gum, who topped the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list in 2017, also spoke of his love for Indonesian food, especially gado-gado (vegetables served in peanut sauce) during a press conference the day before the fan meeting.

“Fried rice is also delicious, as is the satay, but I haven’t tried oxtail soup,” he said.

As part of the event, the actor invited three lucky fans on to the stage to recreate scenes from romantic series Encounter, including a scene in which he puts a scarf around co-star Song Hye Kyo’s neck. Bo-Gum also handed out gifts, such as plush dolls, light sticks and Korean food, to his loyal fans.

Bo-Gum closed the night with “Blessing” before bidding his fans farewell. He is scheduled to continue his tour in Malaysia, Taiwan and the Philippines.

“Thank you so much, the day has been unforgettable because I got to hear your voices. This is my last song of the night before I have to go. The title is ‘Blessing’, so you all can get your own blessings as well.” (ste)
