“I learn a lot, from zero, because I have never imagined myself being a nun,” Maudy said.
Her role as a Catholic nun in the film Ave Maryam was a challenge for actress Maudy Koesnaedi.
“This is a totally different character from the roles I [ used to] play,” she told the press during the film’s premiere at XXI Epicentrum, South Jakarta, on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
“I learn a lot, from zero, because I have never imagined myself being a nun,” she said.

Maudy conversed with senior nuns, while director Ertanto Robby Soediskam suggested movies for her to watch to prepare for her role.
“I did [the tasks] one by one, [from] talking to senior nuns, [finding out] how to be faithful to their vows, what problems occur, [to] how to solve them,” she said, adding that she took notes from all her conversations with senior nuns.
“Many interesting things happened [during the process], but what I underline is that when you act with your heart, honesty and focus, that helps,” Maudy said.
The actress is widely known for her role in legendary 1990s soap opera Si Doel Anak Sekolahan , in which she played the humble and quiet Zaenab.
Actors Chicco Jerikho, Joko Anwar, Olga Lydia, and Tutie Kirana, also have roles in the movie.
Ave Maryam will be released in movie theaters on April 11. (gis/mut)
