President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is hardly new to vlogging.

Joining YouTube in May 2015, the President has posted a variety of videos and shown snippets of his daily life, such as a lunch with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, his quality time with grandson Jan Ethes, his favorite jamu (herbal drinks) and sneakers.

However, his latest vlog titled #JKWKuliner Makan-makan di Solo Episode 1 (#JKWCulinary Eating in Solo Episode 1) is slightly different.

Released on Wednesday, the first episode brings viewers to Jokowi’s favorite restaurants in Surakarta, Central Java, namely Ayam Goreng Mbah Karto, Soto Gading and Soto Triwindu.

The video is longer than his previous posts at eight minutes and 25 seconds.

This time, the President is not the one holding the camera. Instead, the video combines footage of his visit to the restaurants and interviews with the owners.

Moreover, it includes slow-motion, close-up shots and top-down approaches to the dishes being prepared, making viewers feel like they’re watching a food documentary.

The video also puts the spotlight on the establishments, allowing viewers to learn more about the food and the effect of Jokowi’s visits.

Many YouTube users have praised the video.

Grumphicat writes, “Thanks for this, now I know where I should eat if I go to Solo!”

Meanwhile, other users, such as Chiswanto, Atika Wardani and Kelvin admired the cinematography. Many also compared it with Netflix’s original series Street Food. (wng)
