Four films of Lifelike Pictures are to be made available on Netflix starting on March 31.
The films are Pintu Terlarang (2009), Modus Anomali (2012), Tabula Rasa (2014) and Banda: The Dark Forgotten Trail (2017).
Directed by Joko Anwar, Pintu Terlarang won Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing at the 2009 Indonesian Film Awards (FFI). Starring Fachri Albar and Marsha Timoty, it tells the story of a sculptor whose life begins to unravel as he receives mysterious messages asking for help.
Written and directed by Joko Anwar, Modus Anomali had its world premiere at the South by Southwest festival in 2012. The bloody thriller stars Rio Dewanto, Hannah Al Rashid and Marsha Timothy and is about a man who is suddenly separated from his family when they go on vacation in the middle of a wood.
With food and a love for soccer as its main themes, the heartwarming Tabula Rasa won four awards at the 2014 FFI: Best Actress by Dewi Irawan, Best Supporting Actor by Yayu Unru, Best Director by Adriyanto Dewo and Best Original Screenplay by Tumpal Tampubolon.
Meanwhile, documentary Banda: The Dark Forgotten Trail explores the story behind the Banda Islands, nutmeg and how the Spice Islands shaped the history of Indonesia. It was written by M. Irfan Ramli and directed by Jay Subiyakto.
“Fans of Joko Anwar’s thrillers can now legally reminisce with Modus Anomali and Pintu Terlarang on Netflix,” said Raphael Phang, manager of content acquisition at SEA Netflix, in a statement. “We’d also encourage movie enthusiasts in Indonesia to know more about the works of Indonesian filmmakers, such as Tabula Rasa and Banda: The Dark Forgotten Trail. Both are rich with the country’s culture and history.”
Sheila Timothy of Lifelike Pictures said that the company was honored to have its films on the streaming service. “Netflix makes it easier for movie lovers to access various quality contents,” she said.
The movies add to the list of Indonesian films available on Netflix, such as The Night Comes for Us, Aruna dan Lidahnya, Posesif, Love for Sale 2 and Cek Toko Sebelah. (wng)
