Veteran actor Adi Kurdi passed away on Friday at the National Brain Center Hospital, East Jakarta, at the age of 71.
Yustinus Sulistiadi, a friend of Adi, confirmed the news with kompas.com. “He passed away this noon,” he said.
Born on Sept. 22, 1948, in the Central Java city of Pekalongan, Adi was best known for his role as Abah in the popular family drama Keluarga Cemara. The series aired in 1996 on RCTI and ended in 2005 on TV7 (now Trans7).

According to Film Indonesia, Adi started his acting career in 1970 by joining the acclaimed theater troupe Bengkel Teater, led by the late poet and actor WS Rendra. He went into film in the 1980s, gaining recognition through his roles in Putri Seorang Jendral and Gadis Penakluk. Along with being nominated for Best Actor at the 1981 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI), he was named Best Newcomer for his work in Gadis Penakluk.
He also received several other awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 Indonesian Movie Actors Awards and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 2016 Piala Maya film awards for his role in drama-comedy Catatan Dodol Calon Dokter (Silly Accounts of a Doctor-To-Be) (2016).
