Say goodbye to lively mosh pits and stage diving into a packed audience.
t will still be a long time until music concerts and festivals can return to their normal state under the ever-looming threat of COVID-19.
Although Jakarta has eased its large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency only allows drive-in outdoor concerts for musical events. Such concerts are allowed to run as of Monday.
“That’s the only outdoor performance concept we allow for the time being,” Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency head Cucu Ahmad Kurnia told tempo.co.
In such concerts, visitors are only allowed to watch performances from inside cars.

In the concerts, attendees are not allowed to leave the area designated by organizers. They are only allowed to get out of their vehicles with the organizer’s permission.
If they have to go to the toilet, they have to queue with a minimum distance of 1 meter from each other.
A group of visitors should be within a 2-m distance from each other. Vehicles can have a maximum of four passengers and they should be parked 1.5 m from each other.
Concert-goers also have to don face masks and wash their hands, as well as carry their own hand sanitizer and praying equipment.
Children younger than 9 years old and people older than 60 years old are not permitted to enter such gatherings. Only online and cashless ticketing is allowed.
The pandemic has had a crushing effect on the event-organizing industry. Popular annual music festivals such as We The Fest and Hammersonic have been postponed to next year. Long-awaited concerts by international acts such as Rex Orange County, Khalid, Kim Jae-joong and Babymetal have been canceled.
In May, event organizer Berlian Entertainment announced that it would organize the first drive-in concert in Indonesia. On Thursday, the organizer revealed much-loved pop band Kahitna as the first name of the lineup, although with few further details. (gis/wng)
