Helmed by Fajar Nugros, Balada Si Roy is in preparation, with filming to begin in early January. “The film is about a young man who searches for who he truly is and always tries to break the rules,” said Fajar in a statement.

The film’s scriptwriter, Salman Aristo, said he viewed Roy as a trendsetter during Salman's senior high school and university days. “The novel’s storyline is everlasting. Roy is against being stagnant," Salman said, adding that the story was relevant at any time, since it represented the stance of the young generation.

Music curator Adib Hidayat will join the film’s music department and revealed that rock would dominate the soundtrack. “When I reread the novel and the script, I thought about reviving Indonesian rock that was popular in the 1980s to 1990s. For the theme song, I chose up-and-coming musicians,” Adib said.

Balada Si Roy will be released in 2021.

IDN Pictures was launched on May 12, 2020, when multiplatform media company IDN Media acquired film company Demi Istri Production, founded in 2013 by Fajar and producer Susanti Dewi. (wir/wng)
