SURAKARTA, Central Java: Singer Agnes Monica helped raise over Rp 400 million (US$36,000) for Persis, Surakarta’s soccer team, through a benefit concert on Sunday.
In the concert, held at the Diamond Convention Center in Surakarta, the singer belted out eight hits to entertain her fans.
Agnes and five dancers opened the show with her popular song “Bilang Aja” (Just say so).
“I don’t know much about soccer. The only soccer player I know is Maradona. But I’m glad that I can do something to help for the better,” Agnes told Antara.
Krisna Murti, head of the organizing committee, said he expected the concert would raise Rp 500 million for the soccer club, the final count stood at Rp 411 million.
He said the committee was grateful to the singer for paying attention to the fate of the soccer club, which no longer receives funds from the Surakarta administration.
The soccer team’s manager, FX Hadi Rudyatmo, who is also the city’s deputy mayor, said Agnes’ concert also helped in raising the team’s spirit. — JP
