Farmers allowed to tap pine trees in park

BOGOR: The management of the Gunung Halimun Salak National Park in Bogor will allow local farmers to tap pine trees as a way to minimize destruction in the conservation park. Park management head Bambang Supriyanto said the farmers were allowed to tap pine trees in the 118.6-hectare forest. He said the tapping involved eight farmers' groups from the three villages of Cianten, Malasari and Gunung Malang, where the park was located. "We have also involved CIFOR *Center for International Forestry Research* to monitor the activities for six months and to research the tapping spots," Bambang told The Jakarta Post. -JP...
