ALEMBANG: Construction work on the sepak takraw venue located in the Sriwijaya Promotion Center building in Palembang, South Sumatra, for the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games is finished, says official.

“The physical work is 90 percent complete. Organizers only need to install carpets and prepare the competition facilities, such as nets and scoreboard, to make it ready,” Hendri Zainuddin of the Indonesian Sepak Takraw Association (PSTI) said Thursday.

Hendri said the Games’ organizers had reached their target of completing the venue in the second week of August.

South Sumatra’s PSTI has scheduled to hold a test event in early September, he added.

Hendri said the venue had been built to international standards, which included having a warm-up court as well as the competition court.

“The venue should be ready for more international events in the future,” he added.

Construction delays at several of Palembang’s Games venues has sparked concern nationwide that Indonesia will struggle to be ready to host the regional event in November.

With less than three months to go before the biennial Games begin, the co-host city has still not finished the aquatics, athletics and shooting venues, as well as others.
