enowned Indonesian soul and funk band Maliq & D’Essentials will perform their first free-standing concert in Malaysia at KL LIVE, Jalan Sultan Ismail on Dec.16, 2011 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets will be on sale for RM98 (US$31.1 for free standing).

Consisting of Angga and Indah (vocals), Widi (drummer), Ifa (keys), Javafinger a.k.a Jawa (bass), Lale (guitar) and Amar (horns), Maliq & D’Essentials is based in Jakarta and is known for combining Indonesian and English in its lyrics.

The group has been nominated and won awards such as MTV Indonesia Award, Planet Muzik Award (Singapore), AMI Awards (Indonesia) and MTV Asia Awards (Bangkok, Thailand). Maliq & D’Essentials has performed four times at the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival since 2005, having a steady fan base among young people in Jakarta, as well as fans in neighboring countries of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.

They will perform soulful hits such as Terdiam, Untitled, The One, Heaven, Free Your Mind, Sunshine, Dia, Kau Yang Bisa as well as pop-rock up-tempo numbers Pilihanku and Coba Katakan at their upcoming concert.

Customers who purchase a ticket among the first 1,000 tickets will get to enjoy the early bird 10 percent discount. The price excludes taxes and processing fees.

While Maliq & D’Essentials just started its career six years ago, the shining diva Ruth Sahanaya started her career more than two decades ago. For over 20 years, the multi award-winning singer has been carving out a well-deserved place for herself in the music scene of Indonesia.

 Now celebrating the 25th anniversary of her music career, she continues to charm audiences as one of Indonesia’s foremost pop divas. Known affectionately to her friends and fans as “UTHE”, her hit song, the poignant ballad Kaulah Segalanya, released in 1992, is still a hot favorite until today.

 Her musical repertoire spans 12 albums, which include the haunting Memori, and upbeat numbers such as Astaga and Ambaradul. Well-loved both at home and abroad, Ruth has won innumerable awards including the BASF Award for Best Recording Artiste in 1989 and The Grand Prox Winner Award at the International Midnight Sun Song Festival in Finland in 1992.

 Her journey as a musician has taken her on international tours and she has represented Indonesia at many music festivals, where she is described as enchanting and engaging in live performances. Ruth Sahanaya sings from her heart to yours.  Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is one of the concert’s patrons. While, the princess of Kedah, Tunku Panglima Besar Datuk Seri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah will be the guest of honor.

 Organized by Acaralis Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd with the support of Anak Darul Aman Malaysia (Adam), proceeds from the concert will be donated to various charities and sports organizations that are supported by Adam including Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah, Yayasan Anak Yatim Sultanah Haminah, Kedah Football Association and also the new centennial hall for College Sultan Abdul Halim (KSAH-SAHOCA).

Her concert in Kuala Lumpur will be held at KLCC Plenary Hall on Dec. 17, 2011, just a day after Maliq’s concert. Ticket prices range between RM128-RM1500 and can be purchased online via www.iLasso.com
