NDONESIA: Through its embassy in Jakarta, the Kingdom of Norway is on Thursday set to grant the “Royal Norwegian Order of Merit” to former Indonesian ambassador to Norway Retno Marsudi, currently the Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s director general for Europe and North America.
The order is commonly awarded to Norwegian citizens living abroad, Norwegian diplomats and foreign civil servants in Norway, among others, for “outstanding service in the interests of Norway”, and it is the first time it will be awarded to an Indonesian diplomat.
Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia Eivind Homme is scheduled to grant the order in a ceremony at his residence in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Thursday evening, the Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post.
Retno served as the Indonesian ambassador to Norway between 2005 and 2009, and had earlier worked for Indonesian embassies in Australia and the Netherlands.
Lawmakers have approved her appointment as the new Indonesian ambassador to the Netherlands. The assignment is pending her inauguration by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
