P

olitical activism has been a part of model-cum-politician Wanda Hamidah’s life. The former student activist and TV news anchor is now a city councilor from the National Mandate Party. She said she was ready to run in the Jakarta gubernatorial election this year.

Untuk Negeriku (For My Country) – An autobiography of Mohammad Hatta

Of all the books, I like the autobiographical series of the country’s first vice president Muhammad Hatta the most. This autobiography consists of three books. As a politician, Bung Hatta came to prominence from obscurity, which made him my true inspiration. After he became a big wig, he still struggled hard to realize his dreams. He did not abandon his idealism, which was shown in his bold decision to resign from his position as vice president when he shared a different view from [first president] Sukarno. I was also impressed to learn that apart from all of his facilities and power, he led a humble life.

Tuesdays with Morrie

I enjoyed reading this Mitch Albom book. Tuesdays with Morrie makes me realize that in this life, people often pursue artificial things and neglect the quality of their relationships with their loved ones. Instead of focusing on the quality of life that they actually desire, they look for materials. Many people often destroy their life this way.

This book teaches me that we will have a different perspective on our life when we realize that we can die tomorrow.

Perempuan di Titik Nol (Woman at Point Zero)

Nawal El Saadawi tells the story of a woman who wants to raise her dignity and status, which are ignored by her surroundings. This book gave me a perspective on my own effort to eliminate all kinds of discrimination against women.
