mployees of private companies have recorded the highest number of traffic offenses during a safe-driving crackdown under Operation Simpatik Jaya, which was launched on Monday and runs until May 26.
"The Jakarta Police have recorded 2,924 traffic offenders under Operation Simpatik Jaya, including 1,663 employees of private companies," said Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto on Friday.
In terms of professions, other traffic offenders included 424 students, 22 employees of state-owned enterprises and 593 public transportation drivers, he said.
Rikwanto said the offenses included driving motorcycles without helmets, driving in the wrong direction, lacking proper documents, ignoring traffic signs, driving with damaged lights, driving without safety equipment and parking illegally.
During the operation, the police would also arrest motorists using loud horns and irregular license plates, said Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate chief Adj. Sr. Comr Budiyanto Budiyanto.
