new government regulation has eliminated the national exams for elementary school students as of next year. New Government Regulation No. 32/2013 stipulates the elimination of the national exams for elementary school students.

The Education Ministry's elementary schooling director, Ibrahim Bafadal, confirmed the move but warned that the ministry may introduce another form of evaluation, kompas.com reported.

He said eliminating the exams was inline with the government's plan to implement the nine-year elementary schooling policy in the middle of the year.

Ibrahim said an evaluation test for elementary school students would later be organized by local education offices.

Unlike elementary school students, junior and senior high school students still must take the national exams.(nai/dic)
