T

he Indonesian Athletics Federation (PB PASI) will send three athletes to the World Youth Athletics Championships on July 10-14 in Donetsk, Ukraine.

The athletes are Ulfa Silpiana (women's 200-meter), Tresna Puspita Gusti Ayu (women's discus throw) and Sudirman Hadi (men's 100-meter and 200-meter). They will depart for Donetsk on Sunday accompanied by their coach Fifit Yeti Wulandari.

They all qualified for the world championships after passing the minimum requirement at previous competitions, according to a press release on Wednesday.

Tresna passed the minimum requirement of 42 meters when she notched a 44.20 meter discus throw at the East Java Open Athletics competition in Sidoarjo on March 9-11, where she also broke her own national record of 40.52.

Ulfa Silpiana got her qualification ticket after she reveled at the Youth Athletics Championships in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, last month.

Sudirman surpassed the minimum of 11:15 seconds when he clocked 10:96 seconds in the 100-meter event at the Junior Athletics Championships in Jakarta in April. He also qualified for the 200-meter event after running 22:19 seconds, slightly above the minimum limit of 22:75 seconds during the same competition.

PB PASI chairman Bob Hasan said he expected that more Indonesian athletes would qualify for the international competition. 'Unfortunately we are only able to send three athletes. I hope their achievements can encourage other athletes to follow suit,' he said.
