National Police chief Gen
ational Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo said on Wednesday he had followed up findings by an NGO suggesting that up to 33 low to high-ranking police officers had been bribed by notorious graft suspect Adj. First Insp. Labora Sitorus.
'I am committed to eradicating corruption in my force. I will make decisive enforcement decisions in line with the law,' Timur, whose tenure as police chief would end later this year, told journalists at the State Palace in Central Jakarta.
Timur, however, declined to elaborate when asked on the status of the police's investigation. He only confirmed that former and current high ranking officers at the Papua Police were among the officials fingered for accepting bribes.
The Indonesian Police Watch (IPW) previously announced the results of an investigation into Labora, who is now in detention, which alleged that he had bribed 33 police officers, including a Papua Police chief, to the sum of Rp 10.95 billion (US$ 954,249), to protect his illegal logging and fuel-smuggling businesses.
The Papua Police, in coordination with the National Police criminal investigations directorate, are expected to charge Labora under the 1999 Forestry Law as well as the Oil and Gas Law and the Money Laundering Law.
'Labora's case dossier has been declared complete by prosecutors. We hope he will face trial soon,' Timur added.
