ormer boxer Marangin Marbun, 27, was shot dead when he and fellow boxer Barita Lumban Gaol, 24, attempted to steal a security guard's motorcycle early Saturday in Cipondoh, Tangerang.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Sunday that at around 2 a.m. the two allegedly tried to steal a Yamaha Mio motorcycle from Marjaya, 32, a security guard.
'Marangin and Barita were both on a motorcycle and they kicked Marjaya off his motorcycle,' he said.
Rikwanto said that patrolling Cipondoh Police personnel shot Marangin on the back of the neck when he resisted arrest and tried to run over the police. He died on the way to hospital.
Rikwanto said the police were still questioning Barita to find out the pair's motive.
