'€˜Vintage Glam'€™ offers 1950s jewelry trend

Costume jewelry ruled the world of fashion in the 1950s, a time when women always planned their look from head to toe.

A pair of earrings, a bracelet, a necklace and ring were set out; pearls and a beaded handbag were also important to enhance a woman'€™s glamour.

Inspired by the phenomenon, jewelry maker Elizabeth Wahyu Accessories (EWA) captured the glamour of the decade in her latest collection, Vintage Glam.

'€œWomen from the 1950s planned their outfits, especially their accessories, very carefully before they stepped out of the house,'€ said the designer.

She also said her latest collection was inspired by American costume jewelry designer Miriam Haskell, who was known for her glamourous and detailed designs.

The launch of the latest collection also marks EWA'€™s 11-year journey in the fashion accessories business.

Elizabeth said all the jewelry was crafted by EWA artisans using materials mostly imported from China and Thailand.

Items from the company'€™s latest collection are priced from Rp 200,000 (US$17.61) to Rp 2 million.

Elizabeth, known for combining crystals in her accessories, has been a partner of the luxury crystal producer Swarovski in Indonesia since 2006.

Her pieces are known not only among Indonesian jewelry enthusiasts but have also entered jewelry markets in the United States, Britain and Japan through cooperation with jewelry distributors in those countries. In November last year, EWA opened its first store in Singapore.

Vintage Glam offers a total of 150 new pieces that incorporate freshwater pearls, faux pearls, Swarovski crystals, semi-precious stones, beads, sequins and several kinds of fabric.

The Vintage Glam collection is divided into three styles: Pretty Pearl, Classic Chic and Daring Vogue.

Pretty Pearl highlights the enduring charm of pearls, which are combined with more modern materials, such as studs and lace.

'€œPearls are always fashionable. Wearing pearls can actually make you look sweeter and prettier,'€ Elizabeth said.

While for Classic Chic, the EWA collection has predominately black and white accessories that give a classy look.

A black-pearl necklace looks elegant with mounted crystal detailing. Another piece combines the predominantly black necklace with green crystals, creating a strong yet classy image.

For women who prefer a more vibrant look, they can go with the Daring Vogue collection, which is dominated by bright and fresh colored accessories.

An orange necklace sporting colorful sequins and stones with an orange rose pendulum, long green earrings with crystal detailing and a grey pearl necklace with beads and stones of similar colors are some of the pieces of the collection that can freshen up a look.

Vintage Glam also offers handmade clutches ideal for a party that are made from fabric and decorated with pearls, sequins and crystals.

'€œAccessories in the 1950s may not have incorporated fabric or sequins, but we decided to add them to retain a modern feel to the pieces,'€ Elizabeth said.
