Tarumanagara University honors PK Ojong, Ciputra

n its 55th anniversary, the privately run Tarumanagara University awarded businessman-cum-journalist, the late Petrus Kanisius Ojong and property tycoon Ciputra for their contributions to the establishment and development of the university, respectively.

Ojong'€™s granddaughter, Miranti Ojong, accepted the award during the anniversary celebration at Ciputra Artpreneur at Ciputraworld shopping mall in South Jakarta on Friday evening.

Ojong, one of the founders of the country'€™s largest newspaper, Kompas, along with several businessman grouped under the Candranaya Union, established the university in West Jakarta 55 years ago.

Besides Ojong and Ciputra, the university also gave awards to its prominent scientists, Prof. Wiratman Wangsadinata and Prof. Dali S. Naga for their contributions to the development of civil engineering and math and computer sciences, respectively.

'€œThe university awarded them for their contributions to education. They have made noble choices,'€ university Rector Prof. Roesdiman Soegiarso said at the celebration, which also featured performances by Lentera Simfonia Orchestra, The Monarch Choir and Mousai Arpa Choir. (jun/nvn)
