he regional government of Lebak in the province of Banten has prepared 4,000 hectares of land in Curugbitung and Maja sub-districts to develop a new airport.
'The land clearing process is currently underway,' Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Banten branch head of integrated service division Hari Setiono said on Thursday as quoted by kontan.co.id.
The airport is set to be managed by the Lion Group, the largest group of airline companies in the archipelago, which operates low-cost carrier Lion Air, full-service carrier Batik Air, feeder flight services Wings Air, and regional carrier Malindo Air.
Hari said the new airport would be twice as large as Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, since it would have four runways with designed to accommodate large aircraft such as the Airbus A380.
It would have an annual handling capacity of 50 million passengers.
'We are optimistic that this airport will help support the growth of Lebak,' he added. (nfo)(+++)
