State-owned telecommunications and internet provider Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) has blocked Netflix from all of its platforms starting Wednesday at midnight because of a permit issue and its unfiltered content.
The US-based streaming video service has been blocked on all Telkom platforms, namely IndiHome,
WiFi.id and Telkomsel, Telkom's director of consumers Dian Rachmawan told thejakartapost.com.
'We are blocking Netflix as of Jan. 27 at midnight. The issue is about the permit. They don't follow the rules. They also display violence and adult content,' he said on Wednesday in Jakarta.

Video portal blocked? Not for the first time, they have done the same to Vimeo. See whatever you want
to see, provided it's what we allow.

Telkom will need to remind Netflix about territory licenses.

Stupid people don't know how to use Netflix properly, therefore they think that the rest of Indonesia are also stupid.
Do they know that there is a setting where you can choose the age restrictions for content appearing on the channel? Judging by the 'adult content' remark, I don't think so. And we cannot filter those rubbish, morally questionable soap operas.

Soap operas? Caught a few minutes of one being watched by the wife and housemaids last week. Actually had adults riding pushbikes around, doing wheelies and chasing baddies.
Even the security guard got into the act, using his own bike and helping the good guys! Truly, there is little hope for education of the masses if this is to be the norm for the next 20 or so years.
Once they have figured out how to siphon off large amounts of money from Netflix it will be accessible again. Corruption rules.

Use a decent VPN where you can select server location and use whichever region's Netflix you desire.

Try Express VPN or proxy services, it feels wonderful.

Netflix will soon block VPNs. Let's see because it's not that easy to do.

To all of you guys wanting to cancel the subscription, use a VPN on a computer or phone (Hola free VPN supports windows and android). Use the VPN and select browse from America. Voila! Not only can you access it again but you can also watch it with a better collection of movies.

The question is this: Why is there a need to block Netflix? It's not like 12-year-old children can subscribe to Netlifx, and the parents can also log out of their account and log in again after coming home from work. Jeez, sitcoms and uneducated TV series are allowed but not Netflix?

Telkom, where can I send the billing for my Netflix subscription? Since you so cleverly blocked access without thoughtful consideration, now I cannot cancel my Netflix subscription.
Oh come on, I do not need anybody telling me what I can or cannot watch. I have been watching a lot of great series and educational programs from Netflix. Maybe its Telkom who like to watch the adult content flicks.

Republic of Hypocrites. The government of this country keeps meddling around with such trivial things rather than focusing on how this country can move forward and be competitive with neighboring countries. I would not be surprised if later the MUI issues a fatwa saying that Netflix is haram.
As an Indonesian I'm sorry to say that I feel ashamed that I'm born in this backward country.

No money no Netflix!
Telkom, I am happy with Netflix! You block it? Then what's the point of having the so-called fiber-optic connection?

No problem, they just teach more and more people to use VPNs. Friends of mine are watching/using Netflix here for a long time already via Australia.

Less and less liberty, more and more rejection of foreigners. Who wants to come? Who wants to invest here?

Does Apple pay taxes here on app and music sales? Unlikely. Does The New York Times pay taxes on Indonesian subscribers to the Indonesian government? Definitely not.
Google has an office here, but do they pay taxes on all the ads they show in YouTube, search? App sales? Very unlikely; they probably paid close to zero taxes last year.
What about Twitter? And they have plenty of unblocked nudity.
Yeah, let's show the rest of the world what it is like doing business in Indonesia! Foreigners not welcome!
