The government has appointed nine banks to act as trustees for the tax amnesty program.
Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said on Tuesday that the banks, known as ‘perception banks’ included the state-owned banks BNI, BRI, BTN and Mandiri, private banks BCA, BTPN, and Danamon as well as two sharia banks. The sharia banks are yet to be identified.
Those nine banks can cover the various taxpayer segments, " Bambang said.
BNI, Mandiri, and BCA will focus on big customers as they are strong in the corporate segment as well as with high net worth individuals said Vice President Expert Staff Sofjan Wanandi.
BTN, the largest housing lender in Indonesia, will focus on property-related customers. Most corporate customers are developers, Sofyan added.
BRI, BTPN, and Danamon have a strong small and medium enterprise (SME) customer base, he said, adding that there were also two sharia banks. The names of the sharia banks have not been released yet, he added.
“The sharia banks are state-owned banks. State-owned banks will involve their sharia units,” Vice President Expert Staff Sofjan told thejakartapost.com. (dan)
