part from filing reports with the Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu Jakarta), Jakarta gubernatorial candidates, their running mates and campaign teams may also file reports with the police over campaign activity disruptions.
“They can file reports [directly] with the police,” said Bawaslu Jakarta chairwoman Mimah Susanti in Jakarta on Thursday as reported by kompas.com.
She was responding to a question about the frequent demonstrations staged during the campaign stops of incumbent Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaj Purnama and his running mate Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat.
Some protesters were reportedly not residents of the areas in which the candidate pair were campaigning.
Ahok was forced to leave an area in a public minivan when a group of people protested his visit to Rawa Belong, West Jakarta, on Nov.2. One of his aides was hospitalized. Ahok’s campaign team reported the incident to Bawaslu Jakarta and the police.
Mimah said his institution would follow up on the report, adding that it had also received reports from individuals about possible election law violations.
Initial evidence needs to be included in any reports filed with Bawaslu Jakarta so that they can be immediately followed up, Mimah said. “We will crosscheck any reports before making any follow ups,” she said, adding that her institution needed three days to determine whether a report required further police investigation.
