orty-five people who fall under the category of homeless or internally displaced, such as beggars and buskers, have been repatriated by the Jakarta Social Agency to their hometowns in West Java and Central Java.
West Jakarta Social Agency head Surya said on Tuesday the repatriation of people who the city considered to have "community and social problems"(PMKS) was a routine activity to reduce the number of mushrooming PMKS in the capital.
“Of the 45 PMKS, 24 were repatriated to West Java and the remaining to Central Java,” he said.
Before being repatriated, the PMKS were given guidance by Bina Insan Bangun Daya social home in West Jakarta so they could earn a living in their hometowns.
They were also required to sign pledges stating that they would not return to Jakarta as PMKS. “They be punished according to the law if they violate the pledge,” Surya said.
One of the PMKS, Yohanes, 22, said he wanted to be a construction worker in his hometown of Salatiga, Central Java. “I also want to get married in my hometown,” said the man who busked in Mampang, South Jakarta.
