House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto has said that he will not quit his post after being officially charged with corruption, insisting that he is innocent.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Setya a suspect in a corruption case pertaining to a government project to procure electronic ID (e-ID) cards.
"I am not guilty," Setya told the press at the House on Tuesday. "I believe that God knows [I am innocent]."
He said he had yet to receive an official letter from the KPK notifying him of his legal status, but gave assurances that he would comply with the legal process.
Meanwhile, the Golkar faction at the House has officially announced that it would keep Setya in the speakership position. "Golkar is united in supporting Pak Setya as party chairman and House Speaker," said Golkar secretary-general Idrus Marham. (ary)
