The 34-year-old climber reportedly died from hypoxemia while climbing the peak on Sunday.
“The body arrived at Moses Kilangin Airport [in Timika, Mimika regency, Papua] after the joint team airlifted it using a Bell 122 helicopter belonging to Freeport,” Papua Police spokesman Sr. Comr. AM Kamal said on Tuesday.
Ahmad started climbing Puncak Jaya with two friends, Aris and Norwegian Beathe Johannessen, last Thursday. Ahmad developed signs of hypoxemia at 9 p.m. on Sunday as they were climbing the peak.
