T

he South Jakarta Police have questioned three people in connection with an accident that occurred at the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project on Jl. Wijaya II in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta on Friday night.

A concrete segment fell from a crane during rail track installation at the site hitting a car and a motorcycle, slightly injuring the motorcyclist, who managed to dodge the concrete slab.

“The three witnesses being questioned are the project’s field coordinator, a police officer on duty at the site and an MRT official, overseeing its safety,” South Jakarta Police criminal investigation department head Adj. Sr. Comr. Bismo Teguh Prakoso said at his office on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

Bismo said that statements from the three suspects had yet to reveal the cause of the accident. He added that the police would summons the crane operator for questioning in the future.

PT MRT Jakarta, the developer of the MRT tracks, announced on Saturday it had issued a demerit point to one of its consortium contractors, Obayashi-Shimizu-Jaya, as a sanction for negligence leading to the accident.

The company has also fired the worker who was operating the crane lifting the concrete block. (fac)
