PAN deputy secretary-general Yandri Susanto said Monday that the meeting was held as an "Idul Fitri open house" to strengthen silaturahim [the bonds of friendship].

Yandri further said the two political party leaders talked about a possible coalition between Gerindra and PAN in the upcoming 2019 presidential election.

"This is just a regular open house and coalition review," he said. "There's only one month left [until the presidential candidate registration period begins], so I think our effort to build chemistry is getting more intense every day," he said.

"Who the president is, who the vice president is, what the format of the coalition is," Yandri said. "I think today's meeting is a very normal thing. It's necessary to hold this meeting." (stu/ebf)
