ix men died in East Cengkareng, West Jakarta, after drinking bootleg liquor, the latest victims of the dangerous beverage in recent months.
East Cengkareng subdistrict head Yuli Ardiansyah said the six victims were treated at a hospital after drinking the liquor.
"Six young people died after drinking bootleg liquor in East Cengkareng. They didn't die at the same time. They all attended the same gathering where they drank the liquor," Yuli told reporters on Monday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
He added that another person was receiving treatment in hospital.
"In a separate incident about two days ago, another person also died, so there are now seven victims," Yuli said.
The West Jakarta Police are investigating the case.
In April, over 80 people died in Greater Jakarta and West Java after drinking spiked liquor, prompting the police to launch a major crackdown on its sale. (fac)
