rivers and motorcyclists will not be allowed to park their private vehicles in or near the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Central Jakarta during the 2018 Asian Games from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2.
“Cars and motorcycles will not be allowed in the [sports complex]. That is why we’ve provided large pedestrian areas for the Games' spectators and pedestrians that want to enter the Senayan area,” Central Jakarta Police chief Comr. Roma Hutajulu said on Thursday, kompas.com reported.
He said the police and the Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) had prepared parking areas at the House of Representative complex in Senayan, state-owned television station TVRI's complex, the Youth and Sports Ministry complex and the Senayan shooting range.
The only vehicles that would be allowed to enter the sports complex, he said, were the presidential and vice presidential cars, those transporting ministers and state guests and vehicles with special Asian Games stickers.
He added that even police vehicles would be barred from entering the complex, with the exception of tactical vehicles, such as water cannon and barracuda vehicles, and ambulances.
“Nobody is allowed [to park inside the complex]," Roma said. "Residents must park outside of it and walk for security reasons." (ami)
