Transjakarta bus has been damaged after hitting a lane divider near Sumber Waras Hospital on Jl. Kyai Tapa, West Jakarta, early Tuesday morning, when it apparently swerved to avoid a street sweeper working in the dedicated busway lane.

PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) public relations head Wibowo told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday that the incident occurred around 6:08 a.m.

“[It happened not far from] the Roxy flyover heading toward Grogol. The bus was about to enter the busway lane when [the driver spotted] a street sweeper standing in the lane to the right. The bus turned left to avoid the street sweeper,” Wibowo said by text message.

The maneuver caused the bus to crash into the lane divider.

Fortunately, he said, the bus was empty, as it had just made its final stop. “Neither the driver nor the street sweeper were injured,” Wibowo added.

The front of the bus was damaged in the crash: its windshield shattered and the forward doors caved in.

“We are still assessing [the damage],” Wibowo said.
