Toll road connecting Jakarta to Surabaya expected to be ready in December
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is saying the 51-kilometer Sragen-Ngawi section of road would better connect some cities in Central Java and East Java, namely Boyolali, Surakarta, Karanganyar, Sragen and Ngawi. It would also cut the usual three-hour travel time between Surakarta and Madiunto in half.

he trans-Java toll road is nearing completion following the official opening of the Sragen-Ngawi section of the Surakarta-Ngawi toll road in Central Java.
The opening, which took place on Wednesday, was attended by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, State Secretary Pratikno and State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno.
“This year, Insya Allah [God willing], the toll road connecting Jakarta and Surabaya will be completed,” Jokowi said, adding that the remaining Pemalang-Batang, Batang-Semarang, Salatiga-Surakarta and Wilangan-Kertosono sections were still under construction and would be completed by the end of December.
The President said the 51-kilometer Sragen-Ngawi section of road would better connect some cities in Central Java and East Java, namely Boyolali, Surakarta, Karanganyar, Sragen and Ngawi. It would also cut the usual three-hour travel time between Surakarta and Madiunto in half.
Separately, toll road operator PT Jasamarga Solo Ngawi (JSN) president director David Wijayatno said that drivers could immediately start using the road. “Residents can use the toll road for free for a week after the inauguration,” David said.
Previously, the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry said that it was optimistic that the construction of the 1,150-km trans-Java toll road would be finished by the end of 2019. (vny)
