The Bandung City Police have named two suspects in a May Day riot in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday.

The suspects were identified only as SR, 20, and TR, 18.

Bandung City Police chief Sr. Comr. Irman Sugema said the two were charged with vandalism during a riot that broke out at a May Day rally.

The police had previously arrested 619 youths, most of whom wore black during the May Day rally, along different parts of the rally's route, including Jl. Ir. H. Djuanda, Dipatiukur, and the West Java People’s Struggle Monument.

However, due to a lack of adequate evidence, the police freed the protesters.

The National Police said the protesters, who held rallies in different cities across the country on May Day, represented anarcho-syndicalism. Around 1,000 people allegedly associated with the group took to the streets in Bandung on the day. The group reportedly confronted a different group of protesters, resulting in a confrontation between the two sides. Police officers in the field fired a warning shot to subdue the situation.
