Roadside pet sellers operating on the sidewalks of Jl. Matraman Raya in Jatinegara, East Jakarta, will be moved to the nearby Urip Sumoharjo field, according to a local official.
“[All animal vendors] must move to the new location. We are introducing the plan to them,” Jatinegara district head Asril Rizal told kompas.com. “We are not going to raid them; we’re going to manage them instead. This needs collaboration.”
Ornamental fish vendors have already been moved from the sidewalk to Urip Sumoharjo field. Aquarium accessories trader Wahyudin expressed his hope that all the pet traders in the area will cooperate and follow the relocation plan.
“I hope they will move here because it could help boost our trading. Costumers would also find it more convenient,” he said. (das)
