A

construction worker, Aldiansyah, 20, died on Friday evening after allegedly being hit with a red wine bottle by a coworker, Mayzon Kurniawan, 26, in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Mayzon was allegedly irked because Aldiansyah had borrowed his lighter for too long.

The two men were construction workers of a project at the Corruption Eradication Commisison (KPK) headquarters on Jl. HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta.

The incident took place near an embankment of the Ciliwung River beside a railway on Jl. Laturharhary in Menteng, where the victim and his friends were hanging out a local food stall.

"Soon after they arrived to the stall, they ordered some red wine," Menteng Police criminal unit head Comr. Gozali Luhulima said on Saturday as reported by wartakota.tribunnews.com

Aldiansyah approached Mayzon, who was already at the food stall prior to the group's arrival, to borrow his lighter to smoke. The victim then returned to his friends while still carrying Mayzon’s lighter.

"Shortly afterward, the perpetrator approached the victim and said, 'You borrowed my lighter and didn’t return it.' Then, Mayzon suddenly kicked Aldiansyah in the face with his right leg," Gozali said.

In response, Mayzon allegedly took out a knife and pointed it at Aldiansyah; he then boasted how he was immune to getting wounded and started to cut his own hand with the knife.

Aldiansyah, wanting to avoid confrontation, is said to have walked away.

According to Gozali, Mayzon was upset for being ignored, so he grabbed a wine bottle and hit Aldiansyah on his head.

"Aldiansyah then fell and fainted," Gozali said, adding that the other construction workers at the scene immediately rushed Aldiansyah to Agung Manggarai Hospital.

Aldiansyah died before he was able to receive medical treatment.

His friends then filed a report to the police. After questioning some witnesses, the police arrested Mayzon at a temporary housing site for construction workers near the scene. (vla)
