State energy giant Pertamina’s global arm, PT Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), is optimistic about posting 10 percent growth in oil and gas production from its fields in Algeria in 2019 and 2020.
PIEP president director Denie S. Tampubolon said the optimism was due to the company’s plan to drill 20 new wells in Algeria’s fields by 2020.
Seven of the wells launched drilling operations in the middle of last year.
“It [Algeria’s assets] will grow 10 percent to 22,000 to 23,000 barrels of oil per day [bopd] from the existing rate of around 20,000 bopd,” he said after a ceremony marking Pertamina’s maiden export of synthetic drilling mud to Algeria.
Last year, PIEP transported 18,000 bopd from Algeria’s fields to Indonesia. Hence, Denie said, the company also targeted a 10 percent increase in oil sent to Indonesia from Algeria next year.
However, Denie said the potential to bring more oil to Indonesia from the group’s international assets would depend on the speed of completion of its refinery upgrading project at home.
