n late 2014, residents of Pasinggangan village in Banyumas, Central Java, started questioning their neighbor Saminah on the whereabouts of her three brothers after they had not been seen in the area for a while.

Saminah, along with her three children, told the residents that her siblings, Supratno, Sugiono and Heri, had left the village to find work somewhere outside Java.

The locals and Saminah’s mother Misem, who had learned about her sons’ departure only from her daughter, have believed this to be true for the last five years — until a shocking discovery was made last week in Misem’s backyard.

Misem’s neighbor Rahman was sweeping near Misem and Saminah’s house, when he suddenly saw four human skeletons with clothes on buried in what used to be a mud puddle.

An investigation by the Banyumas Police later found that the corpses were the remains of the three brothers and Supratno’s daughter Vivin, who were allegedly killed in a murder plot known by Saminah, now 52, and her daughter Saniah, 37, but executed by her sons Irfan, 32 and Putra, 27.

“We have named Saminah and her three children suspects in the murder case of Saminah’s brothers and [niece],” Banyumas Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Bambang Yudhantara Salamun said.

Following further investigation into the suspects, the police found that Saminah's sons killed their uncles reportedly over a conflict over inheritance of the family's land.
