Meanwhile, in Jambi, one of the worst-affected provinces, firefighters looked exhausted as they rested inside a tent set in Puding village, Kumpeh district, Muarojambi regency.
At least 100 joint personnel from the National Police, Indonesia Military (TNI) and local disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) have been working to extinguish fires across hectares of peatlands just 3 kilometers from the village.
"Being together with my wife and children in our cozy house is a dream I have every night," said a firefighter named Indra.
A cook at the post, Kasmawati, said she had been preparing meals for the firefighters for the past two weeks.
