hey call it a “Mall for Public Services”, but it looks more like a department store or a supermarket. Here, you can get almost any type of public service you need under one roof. Calling it a “mall” is certainly easier than using its official title: the Capital Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency. Even its Indonesian acronym is a mouthful: DPMPTSP.

Initially set up to serve businesses’ permit needs, the Jakarta administration, which runs the mall, has been adding other services for ordinary citizens and the large expatriate community that resides in the Indonesian capital.

Dita Guritno, a mother of two who runs a podcast platform, was a first-time visitor to the mall. She said she woke up that morning with a hesitant feeling as it was time for her 5-year-old son to renew his passport. She dreaded the long line and the prospect of being rejected and told to come back with more documents. She was worried even though she had booked an appointment at the Immigration Agency booth.

To her surprise, her name was called on schedule. And there was more.

“The officers were helpful and gentle to my son. They didn’t mind taking pictures again and again for my son’s passport,” she told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

At the mall on Jl. HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta, customers can access 296 services from the Jakarta Administration and 60 services from central government ministries and agencies.  The DPMPTSP issues more than 500 kinds of permits for individuals and business entities.

Their booths may look much smaller than what you find in their headquarters, but thanks to the online connection, these tiny booths can provide equally comprehensive services. And it is possible, based on Dita’s experience, that there will shorter lines and faster services.
