he Jakarta administration remains optimistic that this year's budget absorption will be higher than last year despite 2019 coming to an end and amid sluggish disbursement by the city’s working units.
The administration recorded budgetary spending of 79.88 percent as of 9 a.m. on Friday.
City secretary Saefullah said the administration had predicted to close the books at 83.42 percent as of Dec. 31, slightly higher than last year's 81.78 percent.
“Our prediction is to end 2019 with 83.42 percent [budget absorption], better than last year’s performance,” he told reporters at City Hall on Thursday.
A number of contractors responsible for handling city projects, such as renovations of schools and administration offices, have been billing the administration, he claimed. The city administration has also started to pay the bills, which he believed would hike the budget spending.
The administration has allocated Rp 77.85 trillion (US$5.60 billion) for budgetary spending out of the total 2019 city budget of Rp 86.89 trillion.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan previously revealed the administration had controlled spending during the second half of this year as a result of a decline in revenue.
