T

he year-end holiday season has always been a highly awaited event for many families in the capital city, especially because it coincides with the semester break of their children’s schools.

But instead of heading to the usual popular attractions of Jakarta, such as shopping malls or amusement parks, many families are setting their sights on educational tourist destinations.

Fitri Rahmawati, a 40-year-old mother from West Jakarta, decided to use the long Christmas and New Year holiday to spend quality time with her two sons and daughter.

“Even though I am a housewife, I am quite busy taking care of a swimming school and small business that I run, so I don’t get to spend much time with my children on a daily basis. So, I think the long break is the perfect opportunity for me to have some quality time with my children and my husband,” Fitri told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Fitri recently took her children to several educational tourist attractions so they could “experience new things”. Recently, she took them to the 2019 ICEFest in BSD, South Tangerang, Banten.

“I took my children to the festival because it had a Winter Village theme; I thought it would quite interesting because they weren’t familiar with winter or snow,” she said.

Her children had also asked to go on a ferry ride during the break, so she took them to Bandar Lampung in Lampung province.
